Make work suck less.

I am a leadership coach with one simple mission:
making work (and life) more pleasant.

Why Coaching?

Why Coaching?

A.A. Milne may have said it best.

“When you are a Bear of Very Little Brain, and you Think of Things, you find sometimes that a Thing which seemed very Thingish inside you is quite different when it gets out into the open and has other people looking at it.”

I do not intend to imply you are of very little brain, but who among us has not woken up at 2 AM with a very Thingish thought only to discuss it with a friend or colleague and feel a little better? Now imagine if that friend had been trained to ask questions aimed at getting to see that Thingish thing in different ways . . .with no judgment about your choices (or that sweater she advised you not to buy). That's coaching in a nutshell.

Why I Coach

I am passionate about making workplaces more pleasant (and effective!) for leaders and those they lead. As your coach, I will partner with you to discuss your goals and how you can reach them. Please note, I am not a consultant. You will bring all of the knowledge and expertise to this party. I bring curiosity, enthusiasm, and lots of questions.

Skeptical? I get it.

Coaching sounded like BS to me until I took courses in Adult Development and was floored by how much insight I gained from every coaching conversation. Each coach's attention to whatever problem I brought to the table supported me as I pondered challenges big and small. Their questions illuminated corners of my mind that were previously inaccessible to me, and it felt so good to know they were in it with me---to be seen and to see myself differently through their reflections. It was a tremendous gift. And it’s one I’d like to give to you.

About Me

About Me

I partner with clients to make work and life more joyful and less sucky. Through purposeful conversations, we untangle what's swirling inside and make sense of it together. It can be messy and hard. It also is productive and a lot of fun. My passion is for working with people living with chronic illness, but I'm happy to talk to anyone seeking support as they get through this thing called life.

I have a BA in English and Theatre Arts from the University of Pennsylvania, which enabled me to work with a variety of wonderful arts-based and non-profit organizations. Career highlights include acting as the sole admin person for The Actors Studio (the James Lipton one), a brief stint as an IT person at the National Gallery of Art, and more than a decade as Special Events Manager for the Folger Shakespeare Library.

When my Multiple Sclerosis made traditional office jobs no longer practical, I transitioned to working from home for an international leadership coaching/consulting firm. After six months on their team I went from skeptic to evangelist, pursuing a Certificate in Leadership Coaching from Georgetown's Institute for Transformational Leadership. I also am an ICF Associate Certified Coach and a Qualified Administrator of the Intercultural Development Inventory.

DC has been my home for 20 years. I love books, food, travel, and my family. Not always in that order.

Rebecca is an absolute joy to work with. She is patient, insightful, and empathetic. Her coaching style immediately brought a level of comfort, much needed when exploring difficult topics. She gave me a safe space for healthy self-criticism and thoughtful reflection. What surprised me every time was Rebecca’s ability to listen and challenge. She has been so valuable to my growth and I will continue to ask myself “what would Rebecca say” for years to come!

-----

While I worked with Rebecca Scott she helped me navigate through my thoughts and concerns with regards to pursuing a different work opportunity, which would ultimately give me the insight to change careers. I gained confidence to take the leap of faith that turned out to be the best decision I ever made. I am now in a new role, that in my wildest dreams I never thought I could be in and had it not been for that original shift I would not have seen the light.

-----

Over the last few years, the leadership training I have received from Rebecca has helped me become a better team member in my current job, a better collaborator on cross-functional teams, and a more confident leader. Rebecca listens empathetically, pokes and prods with a sense of humor, and communicates in a way that is so useful to me as I grow in my career. I cannot recommend Rebecca highly enough for anyone looking for a leadership coach.

Rebecca was a joy to work with! She is a wonderful professional coach with an exceptional ability to listen, distill complex ideas and pose curious and thoughtful questions that provoke a deeper level of personal reflection. Not only did I genuinely look forward to connecting with her, but I have realized tangible growth in areas I was struggling with and become more self aware overall. I'm so grateful to Rebecca and look forward to working together again in the future!
